When Ventilation Matters More Than Dust Protection: Choosing Between Pallet Net and Stretch Film
When it comes to securing and protecting palletised goods, packaging is not one-size-fits-all. The right choice depends on whether your products need to breathe or be sealed off from external elements. Two of the most common solutions are pallet netting and stretch film, each designed to meet different priorities.
When Ventilation is More Important Than Dust Protection: Pallet Net is the Solution
If your products are vulnerable to condensation, sweating, or mould, a tightly sealed wrap can actually make things worse. That’s where pallet netting comes in.
Unlike stretch film, pallet net allows continuous airflow around your goods. This ventilation reduces trapped moisture and keeps products fresher for longer. It’s the ideal choice for industries such as agriculture, food distribution, and horticulture—where products like fresh produce, plants, or dairy must “breathe” during storage and transport.
In short:
- Breathing & freshness
- Reduced condensation
- Protection against mould
When Dust Protection is More Important Than Ventilation: Stretch Film is Better
Not every product needs to breathe—sometimes the top priority is keeping external contaminants out. If your goods are sensitive to dust, rain, or general contamination, then stretch film is the superior choice.
Stretch film creates a tight, sealed barrier around pallets, keeping them safe from dirt and moisture. This makes it perfect for industries where hygiene and protection from external elements are critical, such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, and manufacturing.
In short:
- Sealed protection
- Dust control
- Rain and contamination barrier
Both solutions are effective—but the right one depends on your product’s needs.
If sealing and protection are your priority, go with stretch film.
If moisture and airflow are critical, choose pallet net.
- Containment pressure with pallet net is approx. 4 times that of film – 5 newtons against approx. 20 newtons
